Galentine's Day Masking!

Happy (belated) Valentine's Day, to all who celebrated, and all my Skin Sunday pals! I know I did, any excuse to eat chocolate, celebrate with some gal pals, put on a mask and watch rom coms, are all up my alley! Valentine's Day is meant to celebrate love, from our love with our significant others, our family, our fur babes, but most importantly, ourselves! There's nothing better than winding down with a face mask, a bubble bath, and a glass of wine (or whatever's your drink of choice). So for this Valentine's Day weekend, let's celebrate ourselves, and make sure to treat our skin right. In this post, I'm breaking down my top favorite, holy grail, masks to treat yourself with and nourish your skin with some serious results.

Masks are heavenly, I truly mean it - not just for the skin, but the act of putting one on just puts you in a relaxing mood (or is that just me?). Facial masks are meant to be a treatment for the skin targeting a specific concern you are having with your skin. Whether your skin is dry, oily, or combination we all have skin concerns we need targeted, and I wanted to share some of my top masks, that I will forever buy, and nag my friends to buy as well, and now you!

Does your skin feel congested? Is it that time of the month and you have some not so pleasant friends visiting your skin? Or are you like me, and ignored the fact that your skin isn't a fan of dairy but indulged anyways? Well either which way, this mask will help you with all of the problems above. I've spoken about this product before in my 'Building a Skincare Regime' - and after trying this product, I don't think I will ever find something to replace it. The Aztec Secret - Indian Healing Clay powder makes for the best mask to unclog the skin. You can use either apple cider vinegar, or water (I typically use water because I have more sensitive skin), mix the portions to create a paste, and apply it to the skin leaving until it drys. You will feel it dry, trust me! If you've used this product before you know what I'm talking about, but it truly makes your skin look and feel as if you've gone through a full set of extractions in the comfort of your own home. However, it won't draw out deep impurities like professional extractions do, but this mask is the best clay mask out there for unclogging the pores. Stop using the biore nose and face strips, you're ripping your skin as you do that, further irritating. Try this, and thank me later.

Another product I've spoken about on this page is Summer Friday's Jetlag mask. I truly think Summer Friday's is a brand that has put a lot of thought and research into their products, which I'm proud to support. Two masks of theirs that I adore are the Jetlag & Overtime Mask. Jetlag Mask is my little luxury spa in a tube. When the product was first launched I didn't believe that it did what it stated, and once I tried it, I haven't gone without having it. Especially lately in the cold NYC winter, the Jetlag Mask hydrates the skin beautifully, giving a plump and glowing complexion, while making a smooth canvas. A little tip, I actually use whatever is left over from applying it on my face and apply it to my chest and hands, and of course neck, but all your masks should be brought down to your neck! The Summer Friday's Overtime Mask is a wonderful manual exfoliant. Using apricot seed powder, the granules are even, and do not create micro tears in the skin (such as St Ives does). While rinsing the mask, gently rub your skin in circular motions to create friction and manually exfoliate truly getting the most out of the mask. After rinsing the mask, your skin will appear brighter, and feel rejuvenated.

On the topic of exfoliating products, I'll mention my next favorite mask - Drunk Elephant T.L.C Sukari Babyfacial. Now, I will start by saying, this is a product I have been using since I'm sixteen and I'm biased because I truly might have a serious love and obsession with this product. I brag about it to my friends, and will not shut up about it if exfoliators are ever brought up. But enough about my obsession, and let's get down the the nitty gritty. You should only be using this product once a week, and the price point is fair with how professional grade it is in my opinion. Babyfacial is a chemical exfoliator containing 25% AHA, and 2% BHA, and once you use it, you will understand why it's called Babyfacial, your skin truly ends up feeling brand new. Now, I will say it is a bit intense, if you have sensitive skin, I would build up on time, and always do a patch test. Personally, I am now able to leave it on for the full 20 minutes, but at first, I was using this for 5 minutes at a time, it's better to listen to your skin when it reacts. Applying a cool jade roller after this mask always feels wonderful.

Sheet masks, oh how I adore you. Sheet masks are the only mask that if you decided to do every single day it would not harm your skin, yet only enhance, now our budget might not allow that, but let's dive into why they help, and what my favorites are. Most brands have a range of them, for multiple different skin concerns. Sheet masks are amazing, they are a potent amount of product for targeting a specific area.

My favorite ones happen to be the Sephora Brand, and Dr Jart. These are amazing pick me ups after a rough skin day, I love using a roller or gua sha to do some lymphatic drainage while having a sheet mask. The only thing you have to pay attention to is the amount of time you leave the mask on. Read the instructions, and make sure to leave the mask on for what's instructed. If you leave it on way longer, the mask can actually end up absorbing some of the serum back to the cloth if ending up leaving it on too long.

I like to think I touched on most skin concerns, and included my holy grail masks. I linked all of them above, and as always if you have any questions, my Instagram is below and my contact section is always available! I will always have these in my house, if I run out and don't know? Suddenly it's the end of the world! So go grab your drink of choice, coffee, tea, wine, or maybe even just some sparkling water (cannot stress hydration enough, remember it's our resolution for better skin). On another note, if you're looking for DIY home pantry facials, my girl and fellow esthetician Jenn Dockendorf is amazing at recipes you can whip up in your kitchen to make your face glistening!

Until next time, keep up with me on Instagram, & of course, reach out with any questions! xo
